Fertility Testing

People come to Columbia University Fertility Center at different points in their journey to expand their family. Some are new to the fertility world, while others turn to us after having a history of failed fertility treatments elsewhere. Others are seeking options for preserving their fertility for future pregnancy.

Once you become a patient at the center, you will be given a fertility assessment. The fertility assessment will involve comprehensive tests to evaluate possible causes of infertility:

  • Tests for female infertility include a hormonal evaluation as well as a pelvic examination and ultrasound to assess the physical integrity and structure of the fallopian tubes and uterus.
  • Tests for male infertility usually involve a semen analysis. For treating male infertility, we partner with our colleagues in the Department of Urology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center including Peter Stahl, MD, Director of Male Reproductive & Sexual Medicine.

Our physicians may also recommend testing for infections or immunity from diseases that affect pregnancy, such as measles, chicken pox, and rubella.
